Cinderella (2015) | Review

Last week, during March break I went to see Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella. I absolutely fell inlove with it. I'm not big on the whole Cinderella movie, it's not on of my favourite fairy tales. I would definitely watch this version more than the animated feature any day.

Actors

Lily James who is best known as Lady Rose from the hit television show Downton Abbey plays the role of Cinderella or Ella. I think she was the perfect portrayal of the Disney Princess.  She made the viewers feel the emotions she had when the step mother and step sisters were really mean to her. Lily was the right part for the role.

Cate Blanchette played the role of the evil Step mother. Every scene she was in she stole. I was quite scared of her. Cate acted the role so well that you really hated the step mother, especially near the end when she locks Cinderella in her room.  She made that role look effortless to play.

Richard Madden plays the part is Prince "Kit" Charming. Richard is best know in the television series Game of Thrones. He was the perfect choice as the Prince. I really like how this version shows more of the Prince than the animated movie. 

The evil stepsisters are played by Holliday Grainger, who is best known The Borgias, and Sophie McShera who is better known as Daisy in Downton Abbey. They were they really funny to watch in the movie, I personally wished that they had more scenes in the movie. They made me laugh so hard.

The fairy godmother was played by the one and only Helena Bonham Carter who is best know in almost every Tim Burton movie. While watching this movie I couldn't wait to see how she would act out the role, and she didn't disappoint at all. I really liked her as a blonde, than her usual brunette hair. Good job Helena!!!!!

Costumes 

The costumes were absolutely gorgeous and well thought out. In the animated version, the evil stepsisters had no fashion sense at all, I loved how they brought that to this live action moviemby giving them ugly dresses and wacky hair styles. When we first meet The evil stepmother she wears a beautiful green dress with a lot of detail which looks stunning in Cate. 

Cinderella's blue dress at the ball was the best dress in the whole movie, obviously. I read that there were actual crystals on that dress and there were 9 made for the movie.

Other

I really liked how Kenneth Branagh had the mice like the animated version. They even have the personalities like the ones in the cartoon movie. 

The special effects were amazing. They blew me away. When Cinderella was coming back from the ball and the pumpkin and animals changed back to they way they were had brilliant graphics.

I also liked how they showed a bit of Cinderella's past with her mother. In most versions her real mother is gone and also her dad. They showed a lot of bonding both parent before they died.

Even the sets were beautifully designed. I loved the farm house where most of the scenes take place.
