Bend It Like Beckham The Musical || Review

On Wednesday July 29, I went to the matinee performance of one of London's brand new musicals, Bend It Like Beckham at the Phoenix Theatre. I thought i would share my thoughts with the world.

Bend it like Beckham is based on the 2002 movie starring Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightly and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The story is about a girl names Jess who has to hide the fact that she plays football (soccer) from her family doesn't want her to play and stick to ways in life, which football isn't.

Natalie Dew played Jess in the stage production. She played the role beautifully. And she had an amazing voice for singing. We had an understudy playing the role of Jules. I love it when you have an understudy in a show and they act it out like they perform that role everyday. The role of Jules would have been played by Lauren Samuel but we had her understudy ... The role of Joe was played by the beautiful and gorgeous Jamie Campbell Bower. He was the reason to why I wanted to see the show. He is an actor in Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp, the Twilight Saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, and plays Jace in the Mortal Instruments The City of Bones. I find all the actors are good. And very talented. I didn't like how short Jamie's hair was, I love his hair long.

I loved the music throught the show. It wasn't all Indian. Some of the music reminded me of the movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. My three favourite songs are UB2, Girl Perfect and Result. They are really catchy and UB2 got stuck in my head after. They even play the same piece of music that is in the movie. The music near the end of the film where Jess is playing in the final and the wedding party is dani g in a conga line.

The sets were amazing for such a small stage. They were able to revolve the background scenery to suit the scene in the show, grass for the football pitch and stores for Southall market. I love it when show are able to use the whole theatre. For example at the end when they leave for the U.S they go up the middle aisle to the back of the theatre.

I would recommend this show to everyone. It is brilliant and full of energy. If you like the movie you will love this show.

That's it for now. Talk you later!!
